Culture, participation and art are signs of identity, spaces for creation and diversity, opportunities for development and social cohesion. The city of Alcorcón deserves to occupy an important place as a reference point for cultural action in the Community of Madrid and the rest of Spain. With this mission, the council has set itself the following objectives.

To facilitate access to culture for the whole population, improving the quantity and quality of cultural consumption and presenting the citizens with a wide range of cultural services and activities to stimulate cultural demand.

Stimulate cultural creation by means of a plan to encourage creation, articulated in training and support for creators.

Promote local culture and generate features of collective identity, as well as preserve heritage, understood as not only architectural or historical but also customs, collective memory or the identity of the city. Promote the local from the here and now, creating signs of collective identity, supporting local creators or facilitating citizen meeting points, always from the interest and knowledge of other realities, in order to enrich ourselves.

Strengthen the socio-cultural fabric and encourage its participation in municipal cultural policy. Strengthen informal associations, contributing to citizen encounters, socialisation and the recovery of the street and public spaces. Promote formal associations.

Revitalise the extensive network of cultural infrastructures available in the municipality, with a maintenance and rehabilitation plan; providing them with the necessary investment to make them accessible and efficient, and to ensure that their operation responds to a general plan and to the cultural projects and programmes to be developed in the medium and long term.

To guarantee that the municipal cultural policy caters for all citizens; to attend to the cultural particularities of the populations by age, gender, multi-cultural or diverse capacities, as well as to guarantee the territorial balance between the different neighbourhoods of the city.
Establish fluid channels of communication between the city council and citizens.

Cultural Centres

Alcorcón has a network of 5 cultural centres, spread throughout the municipality. In these cultural centres, the following activities take place:

  • Courses, seminars and workshops in various disciplines, on an annual basis and with open enrolment throughout the school year. The courses are for adults, children and families.
  • Talks, meetings, conferences, performances...
  • Exhibition rooms with an annual programme, where the works of different artists and groups from both inside and outside Alcorcón are exhibited.

Registration Rules Courses and Workshops

  • Enrolment will take place at the beginning of September.
  • The registration system will be online and/or by telephone, depending on the association with which the course is to be held.
  • The registration fee does not include materials, travel expenses and entrance fees to museums and/or exhibitions.
  • The courses will start on the 1st of October, according to the timetable and as long as the minimum number of students is reached.
  • If, for reasons beyond the control of the Department of Culture, Participation and Seniors, students drop out of the course once they have paid for it, the registration fee will not be refunded.

Bibliotecas Municipales

Alcorcón dispone de una red de siete bibliotecas municipales. En estos centros se ofrece a todos los miembros de la comunidad, con independencia de su edad y de su situación social, los recursos necesarios para satisfacer sus necesidades en materia de formación, información, cultura y ocio. La gran diferencia de la biblioteca con respecto a otros equipamientos culturales es su papel de intermediación e instrucción.

La biblioteca pública municipal posee una triple función:

  • Pedagógica al garantizar la libertad de acceso a la información y su localización, en condiciones de igualdad para todos ayudando a superar barreras de cualquier índole. 
  • Difusora de la cultura y preservación del patrimonio documental local.
  • Social al ser un lugar de encuentro, un espacio de comunidad donde nadie es rechazado y pueden convivir personas de edades diversas, con intereses distintos y que frecuentan la biblioteca no sólo para consultar su colección o disfrutar de sus servicios sino que ven en ella un lugar de convivencia.

Museum of Glass Art - MAVA

The Museo de Arte en Vidrio de Alcorcón-MAVA, is a municipal museum of contemporary art with international works, created in whole or in part with glass, which was inaugurated on 23 October 1997 at the initiative of the sculptor Javier Gómez. The MAVA's mission is to publicise and disseminate glass as a material in contemporary art through, not only the works presented in its rooms, but also through temporary exhibitions, publication of catalogues, guided tours, educational workshops, conferences and congresses, collaborations with other museums and institutions, etc.

Puppet Centre

Alcorcón is home to the Centro del Títere, a comprehensive centre dedicated to the dissemination, study, training, creation and diffusion of the art of puppetry, made possible thanks to the collaboration between the Fundación del Títere and Alcorcón City Council, through the Department of Culture, Participation and the Elderly. This centre also has the support of several national and international public and private administrations.
It has its headquarters in the old Miguel Ángel Blanco Civic Centre (C/Siete ojos s/n).

It carries out dissemination activities and will have a museum and exhibition halls, a performance hall, a research and creation laboratory, a documentation and archive centre, a vocational and open training school, among other spaces.

Technical-artistic residencies for performing arts companies

This programme is part of the strategic plan of the Department of Culture, Participation and the Elderly, in the line of work to promote and disseminate the performing and musical arts.

Its general objectives are:

  • Supporting artistic creation in the performing and musical arts.  
  • To enrich the cultural life of the city of Alcorcón.
  • To favour the access and knowledge of the citizenship to the scenic and musical arts.

The city of Alcorcón has an extensive municipal network of socio-cultural spaces and facilities, including seven civic/cultural centres. These infrastructures allow the development of different projects that have evolved since their creation according to the different needs and requirements that have arisen to meet the objectives of the cultural policies of successive legislatures. Thanks to them, the government of Alcorcón can consider a broad, diverse and forward-looking cultural policy, which optimises the achievement of socio-cultural development objectives in different areas, complementing and feeding back into each other. A current and forward-looking cultural policy that includes parameters of economic development, urban recovery and promotion of the city's image, in addition to the more traditional and obvious objectives.

The artistic residency programmes are key tools for the achievement of the proposed objectives, within the municipal projects and in total coordination with the different programmes of dissemination, training and participation of municipal scenic and musical arts.

The Artistic Residencies project is distinguished and complemented by other collaboration projects with performing arts and music companies that are being developed and will continue to be developed, and which we can call technical residencies. These are understood as support for short periods, two or three weeks, to support the end of a creative process, more closely linked to the contribution in stage programming and, therefore, directly in line with the dissemination and exhibition programmes. They have been carried out in almost all public theatres as a more efficient and effective support to production, which enables relations between artistic creation and public theatres to be more enriching and rational. However, the artistic residencies are centred on processes, through relationships that are developed in minimum periods of two years and are linked to proposals for the creation of audiences and support for creation, impregnating the cultural projects of the institution in a general way.

The Artistic Residencies will concentrate on proposals that, due to their artistic and social interest and their complementarity and complicity with the municipal cultural policy, allow the growth of a medium-term project that will enable the company to develop a process of artistic creation with a certain stability and, at the same time, an evolution of intervention and communication with the city of Alcorcón.

METAMORPHOSIS DANCE COMPANY

Sponsored and supported by the Comunidad de Madrid, within its programme of Artistic Residencies for dance companies and through an agreement signed by both institutions, we have the artistic residency of this company, selected because it is a company that sets a very high standard of artistic excellence, but also understands that a local project must find communication and meaning in the community life of the city that hosts them.

It is a young company that was born in 2019, however, it is backed by the prestige and trajectory of its two leaders and choreographers: Iratxe Ansa and Igor Bacovich, who have been collaborating together since 2013. In 2020, Iratxe was recognised with the National Dance Award. The company, both creators, have taken up residence in Spain, after having travelled the world and participated with the most prestigious international companies and choreographers. They already have a great repercussion on a national and international level, as well as a unique list of the most important national and international awards and recognitions.
They masterfully combine their creative activity with their work as trainers and their community work, since both facets are integrated into their creative work.
The DESCUBRE DANZA Programme, of which this year 2022 is developing the activities of its second edition, includes workshops, exhibitions in places other than the traditional ones, open days, exhibitions and a good number of activities that aim to bring contemporary dance closer to all audiences.

THEATRE COMPANY OF THE AMÁS FOUNDATION

To make real and tangible the principles which, by law, must govern any public cultural policy and be its priority, obliges us to set as one of the great transversal objectives of all the cultural activity proposed by Alcorcón Town Council, that of achieving a culture OF everyone and FOR everyone and FOR everyone. For these words to be real and not just a toast to the sun, it is necessary to establish specific programmes whose main objective is to care for and promote, as far as necessary, the inclusion of artists who have had less visibility and participation in cultural activity, such as artists with diversity.
Offering the possibility of establishing an Artistic Residency project to the AMAS Foundation allows us to deepen in the development of transversal programmes that enrich the cultural activity of the city of Alcorcón, fulfilling the stated objective.
In its AMAS ESCENA programme, the cultural area of the AMAS Foundation aims to train and include artists with functional diversity in the cultural and creative industry. We fully share their approach that the inclusion of artists with diversity in the creative industry is a fair and necessary step, based on the perception of this diversity as an added value. The trajectory of the foundation and its achievements, as well as the collaboration already initiated with the City Council of Alcorcón previously, merits an exceptional and adequate capacity that marks it as a perfect ally in the achievement of these shared aims and objectives.

Auspiciado y apoyado por la Comunidad de Madrid, dentro de su programa de Residencias Artísticas para compañías de danza y mediante un convenio firmado por ambas instituciones, contamos con la residencia artística de esta compañía, seleccionada porque se trata de una compañía que marca un estándar altísimo de excelencia en lo artístico, pero también comprenden que un proyecto en el ámbito local debe encontrar comunicación y sentido en la vida comunitaria de la ciudad que les acoge.

Se trata de una joven compañía que nace en 2019, sin embargo, está avalada por el prestigio y la trayectoria de sus dos líderes y coreógrafos: Iratxe Ansa e Igor Bacovich, los cuales llevan colaborando juntos desde 2013. En 2020, Iratxe fue reconocida con el premio Nacional de Danza. La compañía, ambos creadores, han fijado su residencia en España, tras haber recorrido el mundo y participado con las más prestigiosas compañías y coreógrafos internacionales. Disponen ya de una gran repercusión en el ámbito nacional e internacional, así como un palmarés único de los más importantes premios y reconocimientos nacionales e internacionales.
Su actividad creadora, la compaginan de manera magistral con su faceta como formadores y su trabajo comunitario, dado que ambas facetas las integran dentro de su trabajo creativo.
El Programa DESCUBRE DANZA, del que este año 2022 se están desarrollando las actividades de su segunda edición, incluye talleres, exhibiciones en lugares diferentes a los tradicionales, jornadas de puertas abiertas, exposiciones y un buen número de actividades que pretenden acercar la danza contemporánea a todos los públicos.

COMPAÑÍA DE TEATRO DE LA FUNDACIÓN AMÁS

Hacer real y tangible los principios que, por ley, deben de regir cualquier política cultural pública y ser su prioridad, nos obliga a plantear como uno de los grandes objetivos transversales a toda la actividad cultural que se propone desde el Ayuntamiento de Alcorcón, el de conseguir una cultura DE todos y todas y PARA todos y todas. Para que estas palabras sean reales y no se queden reducidas a un brindis al sol, hay que establecer programas específicos que se propongan como principal objetivo, cuidar e impulsar en la medida que sea necesario, la inclusión de artistas que han tenido menos visibilidad y participación en la actividad cultural, como por ejemplo artistas con diversidad.
Ofrecer la posibilidad de establecer un proyecto de Residencia artística a la Fundación AMAS, nos permite profundizar en el desarrollo de programas transversales que enriquezcan la actividad cultural de la ciudad de Alcorcón, cumpliendo el objetivo enunciado.
En su programa de AMÁS ESCENA, el área de cultura de la Fundación AMÁS, tiene como objetivo la formación e inclusión de artistas con diversidad funcional en la industria cultural y creativa. Compartimos plenamente su planteamiento de que la inclusión de artistas con diversidad en la industria creativa es un paso justo y necesario, desde la percepción de esta diversidad como un valor añadido. La trayectoria de la fundación y sus logros, así como la colaboración ya iniciada con el Ayuntamiento de Alcorcón con anterioridad, amerita una capacidad excepcional y adecuada que la señala como un perfecto aliado en la consecución de estos fines y objetivos compartidos.
